“War on Drugs” Op-ED

  1. The Op-ED that Jay-Z is narrating has detailed description of the story through the use of painting on a canvas. The different colors help depict the setting that the narrator is describing, as well as the dark colors that set the mood of the video. It also uses stickers that is added to the paintings.
  2. Aurally it is using a popular celebrity to narrate a highly-debated topic. Jay-Z uses a wide spread list of vocabulary to really help the listener understand the gravity of the message he is conveying. The quality of the speaker really helps the audience picture the meaning of his words.
  3. This medium really changes the message of the “War on Drugs” and how it was handled poorly. If it was just a normal person narrating without the use of visual effects, then it probably would not have gotten as many views as it has now. The use of Jay-Z, who grew up and therefore relates to the meaning of this Op-ED, helps set in stone the message he is trying to convey. The visual effects helped depict the mood and helped set the stage for Jay-Z’s message. It was a great video to watch and listen to overall.
