My Failed Attempts to Get My Money from Coinbase
UPDATE: Coinbase reached out to me shortly after I published this article. Support was excellent and the issue has since been resolved.
Two years ago I dived into the world of cryptocurrency and created a Coinbase account.
I recently began consolidating my crypto assets elsewhere and have been attempting to recover access to my account, to no avail. Unfortunately the 2FA device I used at sign up isn’t working anymore.
No problem, let’s try the recovery process. I can click “I have lost my Authenticator App”:
This takes me through to a notification that my phone number is invalid:
Strange, ok no luck there. Let’s check the support pages.
Ah, according to support I’ll have to get in touch with Coinbase:

Ok, so what am I supposed to do now? Let’s try the phone number.

Great, no luck there. How about an email to a member of staff?

I am attempting to recover access to my Coinbase account.
Attempts to contact support are responded to with a message stating support is not available in my country.
Phone calls lead to the same loop.
The device I previously used for 2FA is no longer working, and the phone number I would expect to be associated with my account (+*************) isn’t accepted. As I am overseas I cannot accept messages to this number anyway.
There are no help articles indicating what to do next.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I have now been attempting to recover access to my Coinbase account for more than a month.
I have not received ANY response from email support, am not able to reach a human on the phone, and have had NO assistance whatsoever.
Given that Coinbase is a financial services company holding MY currency this is completely unacceptable.
Can you PLEASE let me know who I can contact for assistance?

I am at a loss for how to move forward. Does Coinbase still have my money? Do they hope customers lose access to their accounts so that they can quietly siphon crypto assets into their own coffers?
I don’t know, and may never find out.
