Samsung Chrysalis

A final-year project collaboration between three engineering students and two architecture students, the Chrysalis is a concept speaker developed for Samsung that reduces the traditional user interface to an on/off button and incorporates Bluetooth-NFC technology to provide automatic pairing with mobile devices. The button doubles up as a mode switch between directional sound and 540 degrees sound- a 360 degrees omnidirectional sound coupled with a 180 degrees vertical sound field to give a three-dimensional overall listening experience.

SUTD Ballroom Speakers

An ongoing project with a group of friends to develop a set of hifi speakers for the various dance groups in SUTD, this was an offshoot of the Stealth Speakers project that earned us the support of our university. These pair of speakers will be the best we’ve ever developed yet- they feature a 12 inch subwoofer, 7 inch midrange driver and a 30mm tweeter and self-assembled amplifiers that would enable them to reproduce a vast range of frequencies with the highest integrity. More updates to follow in the ensuing weeks…

Stealth speakers

What was originally intended as a gift for the Prime Minister of Singapore in commemoration of the official opening of the SUTD East Coast Campus, became a full-fledged research project under the SUTD-MIT International Design Center with SGD 20800 in funding. I’m blessed to be able to work in a project that involves both good music and science. These Stealth speakers are uniquely cast out of concrete.

Current projects for this UROP group include a specialized pair of speakers for SUTD’s performing arts groups. Future developments could include experimentation with optimization of concrete construction techniques and development of a high-fidelity streaming system with external DAC and friendly user-interface with Wifi-connectivity.

Electroskin

As part of my Asian Leadership Program (ALP) exchange at Zhejiang University we developed a prototype of a patient return electrode. We continued this project back in SUTD under the umbrella of the SUTD IDC to investigate its performance in comparison with current ‘sticker’ pads.

Flappy Bird

This was a wooden toy that I built in junior high school which I really love. Entirely made out of a single piece of pine block, it uses cams on the front wheel axles to raise and lower the wings, creating the flapping motion as one pushes the toy forward.
