The Pathway of Digital Work and What’s Next…

To predict the future of digital work is not easy. Because in this day and age, technology is not the limit of telework but the innovation is. As a result, the progress of telework could be a clue to help us to imagine the future of digital work.

There is no doubt that internet is the basis of telework. Email, which the first revolutionary product in the era of internet was just founded, had changed the way of working and living. It improved the efficiency of communication and made long-distance work become feasible.

To my experience, the first product which I used for collaborative working was Google Doc. The most innovative part of this product is that files could be edited by different group members in different locations at the same time. And all the modifications would be highlighted for all members as well. With the update of product, the instance messaging and collaborative working have been combined better and better, and Google Docs (The name has been changed to Google Drive now) has been one of the most popular tools of Google.

After that, with the development of mobile devices, cross-platform products have been demanded by public. One of the most typical product is Teambition. In fact, it is hard to say that productions like Teambition is an app/software or a collaborative working service provider. Almost all the demand of digital work could be found on it. Such as tasks assigning, project progress tracking, files storage and sharing and so on. As a result, the function of telework has reached an unprecedented height.

In the near future, depending on the development of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, The medium of digital work might be not only texts, images and other format files. People could meet each other face to face and work together via VR technology. Physical distance is not an issue which people need to mind anymore.
