Does Your Loved One Have a Lockbox for Medical Emergencies?

It is important for senior citizens to have a medical alert necklace or wristband, but is that enough? If senior citizens fall and are not able to get up, they can use their medical alert necklace or wristband to call quickly for help. If, however, the senior citizens become unconscious or unable to get up to unlock their doors, arriving paramedics cannot give immediate help.

Contacting someone to open the doors of the fallen senior citizens will take valuable time. A lockbox can help paramedics to save valuable time.

When senior citizens fall and are not able to get up, they are not always injured enough to require paramedics. For this reason, senior citizens would do well to lay down on their floors and practice getting up. Such practice is best done while a friend or relative is present to help, when necessary.

Senior citizens might be in distress after a fall. They could hit their head and lapse into unconsciousness. They could break one or more of their fragile bones. Even if their falls do not result in life-threatening possibilities, they still can be in pain and frightened.

Some senior citizens might be in denial. They might not want to accept the very real dangers that can come with their advancing years. Falls, however, are much more likely after a power blackout. Ecclesiastes 7:10 reads, “Don’t long for “the good old days.” This is not wise.”

If your senior loved one is in denial, try to convince them at least to always have their cell phone on themselves.

An especially suitable time to convince such senior citizens to take the precautions descried in this article is after a fall and especially after a power blackout. As Mark Twain said, “When life gives you lemons, find new recipes.”

No matter what your loved one decides, you would do well to be ready and prepared for a loved one’s emergency. As Zig Ziglar said, “Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.”
