This article is a follow-up to my article I on sleeping well. If, even after following the suggestions in my first article and in , you still are not sleeping well, try some of the suggestions in this article, and in article III.

I have an uncle who is the soundest sleeper I iknow. One rainy night his doorbell misfunctioned and rang continuously. He slept right through it.

He probably sleeps too soundly. We all need to wake up for emergencies. However, many of us would like to sleep at least a little more soundly.

To sleep more soundly, try some of these suggestions:

-Schedule any worry time for earlier in your day.

-Keep in mind Psalms 4:8 that reads, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

-If you have not fallen asleep in 30 minutes, get up and do something relaxing until you are sleepy.

-Keep a sleep diary.

-Consider a sleep lab.

-Make sure you are sleeping on a comfortable mattress.

-Keep in mind the advice of Anthony Burgess, who said, “Laugh and the world laughs with you, snore and you sleep alone.”

-Give earthing a try.

-Set the thermostat to between 65 and 68 degrees.

-Set your alarm for the same time each day.

-Take no liquids a couple of hours before your bedtime.

-Expose yourself to sunlight during the day or use a light therapy lamps.

-Turn off electronic devices 30 minutes before bedtime.

-Establish a pre-sleep ritual.

-Do not let your bedroom become cluttered.

-To keep your house dark at night when you have to get up from sleep, use a small night light.

-Aromatherapy is worth a try.

-The over-the-counter products melatonin valerian, 5-HTP, gaba, passion flower, L-theanine, and/or chamomile might help you sleep better.

-Before bed, read from a calming, non-electronic book.

  • Before bed, listen to calming music.
