Chapter Eighteen: On Moving Forward

Monday, October 18, 2010 Guestbook entry from my client

Dear Darcy, Even though I met Tim only one time, it is quite apparent how loved, admired, and appreciated, he was. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

May you and Frankie find comfort in friends and family now. I hope you can all lean on each other, to heal and to remember what a beautiful man Tim was and all the wonderful contributions he made in this world.

Surprised to hear from me? I wasn’t sure if I would write again. And I’m not sure if I’ll write again after this. …

Chapter Seventeen: The Funeral Service

Sunday, October 17 The Funeral Service

There were many details to put together, but Tim and I had kept a list of the favorite verses and readings we had come across, knowing we could use them at his service. I didn’t go to the regular worship service in the morning, but got dressed and ready to go to his afternoon funeral service in my new duds.

I had a strange feeling like I was getting ready for a date or something and actually felt kind of proud of how I looked. I arrived at the church and was ushered with my family to a waiting room…

Sorry for such briefness; I will do better when I can somehow breathe again… End entry

Not only did Tim choose his cemetery plot and design his headstone, he also selected his funeral home. He picked out the casket, lining, and everything else that goes with it. I thought at one point he had written his obituary.

Unfortunately, when the time came, the funeral home was booked like mad. We would have had to wait several days to use the funeral home we had…

Chapter Fourteen: Hospice

Friday, October 8, 2010, 1:37 PM

They are in the process of admitting Tim to the Hospice unit. It will take a couple of hours, the doctors will know more this weekend but the feeling is less than two weeks.

Tim is painfully trying to come to grips with this.

End entry

What a day. It started off this morning with the doorbell ringing. It was Tim’s former wife. She was apologetic as she had asked her son to let me know she was coming but he had forgotten to.

Anyhow, she and Tim spent some time in the living room together. I have no idea…

Chapter Thirteen: Extreme Roller Coasters

Thursday, September 30, 2010, 1:17 PM

On Monday night, Colin brought home “Louie,” yet another addition to our family.

He is very beautiful but Taffy keeps her in the basement most of the time. He totally brightened Frankie’s spirits! I was sitting on the floor when we let her out of the carrier. He came over, crawled on my lap, and started purring. I knew he would fit in just fine here.

Tim has worked partial days Wednesday and Thursday. …

Chapter Twelve: The Benefit

Friday, September 24, 2010 Guestbook entry from Tim’s family

Hi Uncle Tim and Aunt Darcy, The benefit was great. Me and the kids had such a nice time there. It was so good to see you guys again. That video was beautiful. I was crying through the whole thing. Good job making it Darcy! End entry

Ah, THE BENEFIT. What a loaded event. Weeks and weeks of fun, upset, stress, and excitement all packed into one night. Before I show the journal entry I wrote about it, there is much to say that did not get “published” out there.

As I mentioned, Tim was able to come for a…

Chapter Eleven: Back to Work, Whatever That Ends Up Being

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 3:17 PM

Frankie’s first day of second grade; Photo Courtesy of Author

First day of second grade for Frankie! Dad had suggested Tim go in late to work and get Frankie on the bus (for the first time!) so he did! We were thrilled. Frankie insisted on wearing his suit… is he cute or what? End entry

This was one of those things that made me smile. Prior to this year, I couldn’t really get Tim to do things like go in late to work so he could see Frankie off on his first day of school. Those kinds of things were always “mom’s job.” Not this year. This year Tim takes…

Chapter Ten: A Screeching Halt

Friday, September 3, 2010 7:32 AM

Jeeeeeeeepers… so much happens in a day, much less a week; so I’ll try to give you the quick synopsis. Saturday and Sunday, Frankie had a nasty fever, he recovered well in a day or so, but the three of us lost a couple of night’s sleep, poor kid!

Tim had a great weekend and on Monday decided to go back to work another day a week (this makes four) because he seems to be on an upswing. (Yeah for Tim!)

Then by Tuesday, I had the nasty fever, bad night, and wicked chills. Wednesday morning, I got up to…

Chapter Nine: What the Hell Just Happened? (Again!)

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 8:22 AM

Well, I don’t know what my sister did last night but Tim woke up feeling much better. I haven’t gotten to the hospital yet but Tim called and said that he wants to come home. He wants to go back to work a couple of days a week and wants to start mowing the lawn again.

They are going to have to hospitalize me next! (I’m only half kidding.) And oh yea… now he wants an MP3 player. This is technology neither one of us knows anything about. (I know, we are way behind the times.) …
