Why is a hope dangerous thing?

Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane. — Stephan King (Shawshank Redemption).

When I heard this for the first time, I wasn’t convinced at all. The first thing which came to my mind was another rubbish quote which has no meaning. I always thought, if there is a hope, then there is a life.

Really? Is it true?

No, it is not true. Hope makes you living dead. Shocking? Right? Before you judge, allow me to put my words on this canvas of writing.

Maybe a hope will let you live but are you alive? Things that exist in your dream, in your future that you want badly. Aren’t you missing your present because of this?

A hope where you will become a millionaire one day, a hope where you will marry your beloved, a hope that there will be another morning which will bring colors in your life. What if, those things don’t exist there. But what is the point of ruining present in a hope of better future?

You should try or maybe work hard for what you dream, but don’t pet a hope in your mind that everything will go in your way.

There is a famous quote, ‘The fool didn’t know it was impossible, so he did it.’

What does it mean? It means don’t set boundaries in your life. Limit always puts you in the shell. This is what hope does. People just stop thinking beyond that hope and limit themselves.

Let me try to explain in another way, what do you do when you have a break-up? You hope that:-

  1. They will call/talk.
  2. Everything will be fine.
  3. You hope somehow they will understand and come back to you.

Every passing moment makes you failure when you hope and it never happens whatever you have hoped.

And that’s where it drive a person insane. Hope for a good, but don’t relinquish your dream to hope.
