The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

The Pomodoro Technique can be defined by the following Figure.

Pomodoro is a very useful technique to overcome procrastination.

Task I take:

The task, I selected was working on a project that I have to complete for myself, for the purpose of learning. Because I haven’t complete this project for a long time due to procrastination. So, I think this is good opportunity to experiment and complete my previous task, as it is a win win situation.

Distractions I Faced:

  • TV volume and people talking noises. I completely overcome this my wearing a head phone.
  • Laptop low battery Sign. Because I forget to connect my laptop charger, in the second trail. So, I completely overcome it by connecting charger to laptop.
  • Mobile Notification Light. Someone, is messaging me on Whatsapp. I completely overcome by not touching mobile or even seeing it.
  • Illogical Thinking. At a time during my task, I was deflected and thinking about another thing that wasn’t even a motive or had not any connection with the current task. I completely overcome this by motivating myself, and thinking about the idea that I am competing with time and my limits.
  • Felt Thirsty. I felt thirsty, and want to drink water at my first trail. But, I stopped myself, and wait until Alarm. After that, I completely overcome this and place a bottle of water nearby me.

Questions:

Was this experiment difficult for you or not that difficult?

Yes, Somehow, because when I started working on the project, my family members start discussion about an interesting topic and I want to contribute my part, but I stopped myself because then I have to actively answer the question they asked in this reaction.

Did it help you accomplish more or about the same?

It helped me to accomplish more, than what I can accomplish without pomodoro. Because I have to force myself to do a single thing by avoiding distractions.

Do you plan on doing this again regularly, and what will you do to improve the experience?

Yes, Definitely I will do it on regular bases. I will practice this technique, while doing my office work. As I think by doing this, I can archive the whole day task in half day. And in the remaining time, I can relax as reward or can research on something new, to improve my skills set.

Conclusion:

I know I can’t complete this whole project with this task at single time, but I can archive a big picture of it. And at the end of Pomodoro Technique, I effective archive a big part within 1 hour and 20 mint, which was impossible to archive in this time span.
