Is religion hurting us?
Science or religion?
Ah, religion. The topic that can turn a medium peaceful family dinner into a battleground faster than we can say “amen.” Is it the divine glue holding society together, or the spark igniting countless conflicts? Is religion hurting us? Are believers healthier and happier than non-believers? Can faith and science get along, or are they forever like cats and dogs? What nuggets of truth, if any, can we glean from religion? And the big one: Does God even exist? These questions have been debated for years, some over millennia, and probably at every dinner where Uncle Bob decided to stir the pot. Or, we can trace the origin of the religious experience before homo sapiens.
First, let’s talk about the good stuff. Religion has given us some pretty fantastic things. For starters, holidays! Without it, we wouldn’t have Christmas or Hanukkah. Imagine a December without twinkling lights and gifts. Plus, let’s not forget Easter eggs, and the endless delicious food during Ramadan. It’s like the world’s longest potluck, with everyone bringing their A-game. Essentially there has been no culture on Earth without it. It’s universal.
