In a nutshell, there is a palpable sense of alarm that, without swift and substantial changes to our current practices, all we hold dear could be swept away like a sandcastle crumbling beneath the relentless sea waves, within just a couple of generations. Say what? We’ve had some pretty eye-opening chats — mostly behind closed doors — with ministers, civil servants, scientists, and business people, and let me tell all, the awareness is sky-high. It’s like everyone’s got a flashing neon sign in their heads saying, “Change or perish!”.

Here is the deal. The situation is like driving a car with a wonky steering wheel. If we don’t make adjustments and take a different course, there’s a high chance that we won’t make it to the end of the century with a livable planet. Hard evidence is popping up everywhere, like that sudden, unprecedented spike in ocean temperatures these years that had everyone from surfers to scientists doing a double-take. And let’s not easily forget the ever-present background hum of biodiversity loss, steadily turning our rich tapestry of life into a threadbare rug.
