I’m an experienced software developer. When I migrated from my natal Cuba to Colombia (South America) and started working as a freelancer I didn’t have any portafolio to show because everything belonged to the Cuban government (you know, communists) and guess what: I had to start selling my services at $10/hour, which is a good salary by Colombian standards. Now I charge $30/hour which is a top salary for the the country. My clients are happy with my work and I don’t disappear, they are actually recurrent clients. Quality and cost/price not always correlate. Freelancers are not the worst option neither. You are just bias.
