The Adriatic salmon lives in rivers during its entire lifetime. They have a long skinny body that helps them to swim better. They live in rivers in Southeastern Europe while their body length is typically around 40 cm and can grow up to 70 cm. The weight of Adriatic salmon can range widely from 80–425 grams. These fish tend to live in the deepest and darkest parts of rivers. The current population of the Adriatic salmon is unknown, but their population is continuing to decrease.

The Adriatic salmon lives in freshwater cold streams and rivers that are typically in high altitude locations. The rivers and streams where they are found are in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Montenegro. The majority of the rivers that they are found in are Krka, Nerevka, Jardo, and Zeta. These rivers are connected to the Adriatic Sea.

Adriatic salmon eat other small fish and insects in the freshwater rivers they live in. These salmon are helping to control the population of insects and small fish in the freshwater rivers they are living in.

The causes of decline in Adriatic salmon have been linked to destruction of rivers, over fishing, and new predators. The new species that are being introduced into their ecosystem are taking their sources of food and ideal living locations. These salmon are also seen as a game fish, so fisherman and trappers have been trying to catch these fish at larger amounts. They are also being fished as a food source for humans. Many dams are also destroying their habitat in the rivers, which is contributing to the decline in their population.

If the species were to continue to decline and eventually become extinct, this could have a rippling effect on the amount of small fish and insects in the rivers. The decline can also have an effect on the amount of salmon that is available for consumers. This could also limit the amount of game fish that are available in the rivers of the Adriatic Sea.

The current conservation efforts for Adriatic salmon are no where to be found. There are no efforts being done currently to help maintain the existence of the Adriatic salmon. The conservation of their habitat would be an option to help prevent the extinction of this species. Their habitat have been altered by humans building dams.

With no conservation efforts being implemented currently, the spread for the awareness of the endangerment of the Adriatic salmon species is beneficial to their existence. Also, limiting the amount of fish that are able to be caught at a time would help to decrease the amount that are being taken by fisherman. If you are willing to help with the decline of this species, there are many opportunities for you to donate your time and money to organizations that conserve habitats and promote the awareness for endangered species. Below are a few helpful links to help you learn more about organizations and other species that are currently endangered. Many species are relying on humans to conserve resources and habitats to maintain that species.
