How To Generate Creativity In A Workflow

Work is piling up fast. And intense. If you are not a fancy fashion blogger sitting in a café with a cup of latte, it might be hard to generate creativity all the time. After reaching a certain point, every person feels like he or she has run out of the ideas and there is nothing new to invent. Well, instead of looking for the inspiration, we can overcome this crisis wisely by getting thoughts organized.

  1. Structure the Mess

The conviction that creative thinkers are tend to keep the mess around has become outdates. In fact, the high level of organization helps to make way to creativity. Thus, structuring and prioritizing work objectives allows us to see the full picture and where should we apply a new approach accordingly. To allocate a large amount of tasks we can use mind maps, stickers on a board, notes applications, services like Trello etc. When it has been done, put aside or delegate unnecessary stuff to leave the core things to work on.

2. Choose One of Two Options

You might have heard that the 80/20 proportion is applicable to many processes in our life. And the workflow is one them. If do divide your tasks/project into 5 main categories, we will get the proportion 4/1 accordingly. The thing is, that if you are doing 4 types of assignments in a proper way, then 1 one of them should be a distinguishing feature, which defines the creativity of the whole project.

For example, you organize weddings. You have already hold a few hundreds of them. But, obviously, every client wants to have something exceptional. Considering that wedding organization is covering such basic items as ceremony, banquet, music, entertainment and decoration, you should pick one of them to present it in a different way. It can be Indian style of decorations, cover-band presenting live music or an impressive buffet instead of banquet.

Another way is to choose 1 item to implement it ideally. Another 4, which are less essential, is the field for your bold experiments. To take another example, you are designing the website for your client. If to consider that the most substantial part of creating a selling platform is its usability, then it should be done properly. After that, you can add special functions, structure categories differently, choose original colors and try a new kind of subscription form.

3. Be in trend

No one has yet denied the power of googling. And no one will. If you know exactly which parts your work consists of, you can always read about the hottest trends and find offbeat solutions, invented by other people. Blogs, journals, newsletters, pins, Facebook posts — everything is helping you to generate the pull of possible options. As more solutions you add to this pool, the more unique variants you can find by process of elimination.

4. Ask an Opinion of People Around

Sometimes people can surprise you with their ideas. So don’t hesitate to ask what do they think. Of course, you should not ask directly “How can I make my presentation catching”, but you can always ask about the same kind of experience that people had or what do they think is the most important in this activity. Generally, it means you have to think outside the box — through others eyes. When you look at the things from a different angle, ideas very likely will come to your mind.

5. Pursuit Less But Better

When chasing for creative solutions, you might be overexcited. Don’t let this feeling play tricks on you. It is always better to make less but better. Have you ever thought why people admire minimalistic, almost empty paintings more than detailed ones? Simplicity creates a certain sense of uniqueness, highlights profound vision of the matter. Moreover, in a highly competitive environment it is very easy to stray from the right path, trying to invent more and more unique features. So just like smart is the new sexy, essential is the new creative.
