I Moved to Linux and It’s Even Better Than I Expected
Dan Gillmor

Some people mention they like their Mac hardware too much to consider switching to Linux. I am currently using Elementary OS (Ubuntu based) on a 2011 Macbook Air 11 inch and a mac mini 2009 model. Both of these machines were huffing and puffing on OSX El Capitano & Sierra with constant spinning beach balls. I have also used Mint and Ubuntu on a 2010 Macbook Pro. The experience is amazing and everything just works pretty much out of the box — especially if you don’t mind running through a checklist of tweaks you can make and there are a ton of articles online. For me it has given some extra life to some old hardware and honestly if I buy a new macbook i will at least “dual-boot” with Elementary OS.
