Streamlining public interactions from an ‘outsiders perspective’.

To design for public interaction is to observe people’s interactions with one another and with their environment from an ‘outsiders perspective’. The . of public interaction design is not to deliberately curate or install interactive experiences in public spaces. The . of public interaction design is to better understand people in their natural environment doing the things they do somewhat well and improve upon the way things already work in a way that builds upon a sense of ‘ease’ and delight in the day to day experiences which people don’t realise. they are already having. If you are able to streamline an experience that causes someone to stay a little longer to enjoy a morning sunrise at a boutique mountainside cafe rather than being reminded that they are sitting outside of a Starbucks on a busy street and are able to 💭through the interactions that caused the person to get to where they needed to go when they were done, you have successfully streamlined a public interaction.

To ‘draw from’ or ‘observe to’ from an outsiders perspective, a person must first be fully aware, fully present and fully able to understand the interaction one is already having with their own environment first.

Within the limitations and budget constraints of private practice, we do so by ‘using to’ and by ‘drawing from’ Ouspensky’s self-reflection/self-observation methods and techniques.

Do or do not, there is no ‘try’.
