Archaeologists have found the caves of the Gaunches, the first known inhabitants of the Canary Islands

Scientists have managed to find 8 caves that were inhabited in the past by people from the Gaunches culture. Archaeologists hope to learn more about them through this discovery.

The caves were located in the northern part of Tenerife, near the towns of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, El Rosario and Los Realejos. The latest research was led by archaeologist Nuria Álvarez and speleologist Eduardo Díaz. The researchers admit that access was very difficult. The researchers had to climb to get to them.

The discovery is part of a project for which the Canary Islands Cultural Heritage Office is responsible. The authorities want to examine all the caves from the period when these lands were inhabited by the Gaunches.
