Highlights of Athens

Athens is the capital and also the largest city in Greece. Its area is 412 sq. km, which is 100 sq. km. It is located in the southeastern part of the country, in the Attica region on the Saronic Gulf. It borders two regions — Central Greece and the Peloponnese.

The entire agglomeration, known as Greater Athens, has a population of nearly 4 million. It includes the city of Piraeus and side satellite cities. The center of the capital itself has a population of about 750,000. The region is the most densely populated of any in the country.
