Alexander the Great was the son of Philip II of Macedon and Olympias. There were suggestions that his father might have been the last native Egyptian pharaoh, Nectanebo II. Alexander was born in 356 BC in Pella, Macedonia. He died at the age of just 32 in Babylon, Mesopotamia.
Alexander the Great’s Path to Power
He was reportedly a very mature child. At the age of just seven, he received Persian envoys and spoke to them articulately. That’s why he smoothly assumed power in Macedonia at the age of 20 in 336 BC. It cannot be ruled out that he was involved in a plot to assassinate his father, Philip II, although he never admitted to it. He blamed King Darius III of Persia for his father’s death.
