Mr. Coffee ECM160 4-Cup Steam Espresso Machine
The Mr. Coffee ECM160 Steam Espresso Machine is one of the cheapest steam espresso machines on the market today, sitting comfortably at around $40 (time of writing). However, with this espresso maker, unlike most things in the espresso appliance industry, you get MUCH more than you pay for!
The Mr. Coffee ECM160 does several things for you…It makes espressos, it makes cappuccinos, and it makes lattes. Factory shipped with a high quality milk frother/steam wand, you’ll have no trouble whipping up ultra-creamy cappuccinos and finely blended lattes. The removable drip tray makes cleaning this espresso maker a breeze, and the ergonomically designed decanter makes handling your freshly brewed coffee both simple and clean. The removable frothing aid gives you more control over your delicious cappuccinos.
All in all the Mr. Coffee ECM160 4 Cup Espresso Maker is a great boon to anybody’s kitchen, and is just another gem in the Mr. Coffee line of products.
- Steam espresso machine brews 1 to 4 cups (20 ounces)
- Removable frothing aid; powerful milk frother for creamy cappuccinos
- Decanter with measuring marks, stay-cool handle, and drip-free pouring spout
- Cup warmer; removable drip tray; cord storage; measuring scoop included
- Measures 8 by 6–1/2 by 10–1/2 inches
The Mr. Coffee ECM160 is definitely a good machine, even though most people who are avid espresso drinkers will probably find that they’re uncomfortable spending so little on a coffee machine like this one.
Here’s the truth about the ECM160…It DOES make really really good cappuccinos. It makes great lattes. The milk frother is much more powerful than anyone would expect of such a cheap machine. However, if you’re an espresso-only drinker, then honestly you’d probably be better off with a different machine. The reason is that this Mr. Coffee appliance is a steam based espresso machine…That means that you’ll never be able to brew with enough pressure to develop the flavorful and aromatic crema that espresso drinkers so fondly seek.
If you’re just going to be whipping up cappuccinos, however, you’ll find nothing wrong with this machine. As stated above, the milk frother is strong and works well…Brewing thoroughly creamy cappuccinos is simple. The only other thing I can say is that when brewing more than a couple cups of espresso the process becomes a little bit trickier, again, because of the steam based nature of this appliance.
To conclude, I would say that if you’re in the market for a cheap way to make cappuccinos then the Mr. Coffee ECM160 is going to do the trick for you. If you want to make espressos then I’d suggest checking out a different machine, preferably a pump driven one. If you really are on a budget, then if nothing else get this machine and pick up a tamp and aftermarket grinder and that will help a lot.
All Nespresso machines are designed for use with Nespresso reviews capsules and work only with these capsules.
