The uproar over Gruber’s post is mainly predicated around how no one will want to pay over $1,000 for a phone. Which is hogwash, of course. People will pay.

I concur.

Unlike M.G. Siegler I actually paid over $1,000 USD for my iPhone 7 Plus (256 GB off contract on AT&T).


Because leasing out your smartphone (which is basically what all these no down payment phone plans are) is more expensive then paying for the iPhone off contract (at least over a 2 year period).

However I plan to keep my iPhone for at least 2 years (maybe 2.5 years) so paying over $1,000 is fairly cheap.
