Why Did Microsoft Buy LinkedIn?

Big news today — Microsoft bought LinkedIn for $26 Billion (Cash).

Why? Lots of pundits will tell you it was to augment various aspects, but fundamentally it comes down to one thing:

INNOVATION

Peter Drucker says that business is really only two things: Marketing & Innovation.

Microsoft gets marketing totally. They used to be one of the best at Innovation but they have struggled lately — at least to innovate at the scale that Microsoft needs to innovate.
