A fantastic feat for Ruth Davidson and the union!
Still completely ecstatic from waking up this morning to hear that the Conservatives are the main opposition party at Holyrood.
Only yesterday social media was awash with tweets and status updates that Ruth Davidson was seen as ‘not really’ standing a chance in Scotland, what with Scotland being a bastion of progressive politics in the British Isles — how could those nasty Tories ever make any serious gains?!
Many nationalists and those on the left decried that the Tories wouldn’t even be ‘allowed’ to achieve such lofty status that is afforded to the official opposition. Such is the common response of this brand of self-righteous nationalist and left-wing politics who believe that they know best and if you don’t see it their way — you simply must be wrong, or even nasty and self-seeking.
Well! What a difference a day makes. The overall number of Conservatives at Holyrood has soared from 15 to 31. Ruth Davidson has proven herself to be an asset to her party and country. And much credit should be given to the Scottish Conservatives rebranding themselves as the clear-cut party for unionists and those who seek to get on in life, without the constant looming threat of another referendum on Scottish independence.
It is all simply marvellous, shall raise several glasses to you all north of the border this evening! PS — this now means we’re on a one stop ride to June 23rd, so I do hope you’re all signed up to Vote Leave!
