The only remedy for this might be the publication the article goes in. This can give an article traction if it’s relevant to the publication and the publication has a large following. Thanks for tagging me!
It is an interesting thought, but I don't think it does. One of the issues is that Medium is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The volume of new content being posted every day has powerful benefits in the world of Google. The more frequently a website is updated with unique content, the more relevant it is seen to Google’s algorithm.
Thank you for your comments. In many respects, I completely agree with you. The quality issue is one I see all the time and it inspired me to write this piece. I’m frustrated at the number of writers that don’t understand the purpose of the platform they are writing on.
