Young lawyers campaign to keep Britain in Europe

A group of junior lawyers has begun a campaign to keep Britain in the European Union.

The Young Lawyers’ Network is planning to give talks at law schools, and to produce myth-busting information about the EU.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer associate Jenny Leahy is the lead lawyer on the myth busting work, which will set out some of the EU reforms that have benefited young people in the UK.

Last year, Freshfields competition partner John Davies took a leadership role in a legal network for senior lawyers hoping to keep Britain in the EU.

Young Lawyers’ Network chair Darren Jones, a solicitor at Bond Dickinson, said: “The referendum is likely to happen in June which gives us only a matter of months to extend our reach across the country. At the Young Lawyers’ Network we’re all clear that Britain has to remain a part of the EU and that everyone needs to play their part to make sure we prevent a Brexit.”

“For many young people the right to study across Europe, or get cheap flights for European holidays, or the new right to use your mobile phone without incurring high roaming charges is just the norm. Our campaign will remind people that these benefits are a direct consequence of our membership of the European Union.”

“We believe that a Brexit will limit future opportunities for young people in Britain and we want to make sure that people understand this before going to the ballot box.”
