Frank Thomas, aka “The Big Hurt”, was selected 7th overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 1989 MLB draft. He went on to play for the Pale Hose for 16 seasons and became the most celebrated hitter in franchise history.

Thomas finished his career with 521 home runs, tied for 20th all-time. He’s a five-time All-Star, four-time Silver Slugger, two-time MVP, and one-time Batting Champ. He was also a member of the 2005 White Sox, the team that brought a World Series championship to the Southside for the first time in 88 years.

Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, the former and long-time White Sox play-by-play announcer said:

“I’ve played against some great right-handed hitters… Kaline, Killebrew, and Mays. But he’s the greatest right-handed hitter I’ve ever seen.”

The Big Hurt’s offensive numbers were reminiscent of the Golden Age of baseball. Only six other players in MLB history had a higher batting average and hit more home runs in their career — Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Jimmie Foxx, and Manny Ramirez.

Further, Frank Thomas is the only player in history to achieve 7 consecutive seasons with at least a .300 batting average, 100 walks, 100 runs, 100 RBI, and 20 HR.
