Who’s your pick as the best NBA player of the 21st century? Is it LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, or someone else? (photo credit: Wikimedia Commons, edited by: Darryl Ventura)

If you ask basketball fans to rank a list of 10 NBA players from best to worst, you’re literally going to get a million different answers. There are 3,628,800 different combinations to be exact!

Do you see where the problem lies in trying to rank the best players?

Everyone has their own opinion. And all these opinions are influenced by their own fandom, preferences, and personal bias.

If I were to quickly come up with the five best players of the 21st century, my initial gut reaction would be: 1) LeBron 2) Shaq 3) Kobe 4) Steph Curry and 5) Nikola Jokić.

Obviously, this is just my opinion.

Is there a better method — unswayed by bias — to determine which players are truly the best?

Perhaps it’s through using an algorithm that we can extricate the human element to objectively calculate and rank NBA players.

Numbers Don’t Lie

To rank the greatest basketball players — as free from personal bias as possible — I created an algorithm that inputs 27 different statistical categories.
