With all due respect Deb, your failure in this context was a lack of preparation and perhaps an overconfidence in your ability to “freestyle” your way through the meeting.

We cannot control certain parameters nor inputs in real life. To me, the addition of extra participants in your meeting is a sign of respect and how much your insight is appreciated. Your guidance is obviously something these people hold in high regard. They wouldn’t have felt the need to attend otherwise.

I speak from experience having made similar errors multiple times in my career. I was ill prepared and my attempts to secure new business in turn, were unsuccessful.

What I did learn from these circumstances was to never take an opportunity for granted. I too felt shame but I came to realize that it’s an unproductive realm to remain in. I quickly moved past it.

I truly believe that this will be a catalyst for you Deb. You are meant for something larger. Something more challenging and ultimately, more fulfilling.

When this opportunity presents itself, you will be ready. You will seize it with a new perspective. You will prepare and you will crush what’s coming your way.

“This temporary shame is no means for self blame. Huge opportunities are coming and they won’t find you running. Your ready to seize the day and without a doubt, you’ll do it your way.”

Keep being an inspiration Deb. You rock and you’re appreciated.
