That’s good — one of the core tenets of Design Fiction is precisely to extrapolate into a near future based on a set of core principles. It’s less about questioning the future, it’s more about creating a legible near future that feels like it could come into being, that feels actionable and attainable. We want these near futures to feel possible. The substance of the workshops, though, are to create conversations amongst the workshop participants and debate, discuss, review, disagree and produce representations (eg products, in this case) of these conversations. The outputs, while important, are only the conclusions of a solid day of hard work thinking about the near future. The workshop is the work; the catalog is to remind us of those conversations.
