Classic anthropocentrism, treating humans as special and different from other animals; a postulate that, as pointed out here, frames the debate completely on the wrong foot and is a faulty assumption. And yet some claim religion, for example, is necessary to boost social cohesion as if the group bonding mechanisms we inherited from our common ancestor with chimps are inadequate, another hypothetical assumption with little merit.
