Think Before Speaking

To begin the process of breaking the unfiltered speaking habit, you first must accept the fact that you actually can control your tongue. You are responsible for what comes out of your mouth. The goal is having an awareness of when to speak naturally and fluidly and when to think before we speak and when not to speak at all.

– Establish a personal communication values filter and decide to only allow things out of your mouth that bring things like edification, education or comfort.

– Consider who you’re speaking with and how your conversation may be received or even passed along to others. Is it appropriate?

– Be aware of your tone. Do you really think someone is interested in what you’re saying while yelling?

“Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise: and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” Book of Proverbs 17:28
