But those values are always adapted, changed (sometimes beyond recognition), or even dropped. I doubt that today’s conservative values could be stomached by, say, a conservative monk teaching in Paris in the middle ages. The only thing this monk would agree on is “Don’t change for change’s sake” and “Cherish our values!” On the other hand, a modern conservative would run screaming from this monk’s values. Still, both could consider themselves conservatives :)
