The Witcher logo from the Netflix series

The Witcher series launched on Netflix in 2019 and season 1 is one of the most watched shows on Netflix to date. With season 2 having premiered over the holidays, we figured this was a great topic to launch the #DataFamCon challenge!

The Witcher world started as a series of books, which were then turned into an award winning video game series in 2007, and now a Netflix TV series. For this month we have provided some data about the TV series, video games, and books for you to create your own adventure and viz something about The Witcher! While we have provided some data, please feel free to find your own data as well if there’s a part of the Witcher universe you want to viz but we haven’t captured.

The data files are stored here, along with a Read Me Word document that has source information as well as additional links. Once you create a viz be sure to submit to the tracker here. Here are some examples of Witcher visualizations to get you started:

This diagram, published in the Nightingale by Milan Janosov, uses text from the books to create a social map. Read more about it here: https://nightingaledvs.com/a-network-map-of-the-witcher/

Following the Season 1 Timeline

Season 1 of the Netflix series followed Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt across different timelines, which could sometimes be confusing (to say the least!). Here is a helpful guide from Jeremy Johnson to help understand how events progressed by episode. https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/jeremy.johnson/viz/TheWitcherSeason1/TheWitcherSeason1

Happy vizzing!
