The global OTT content market is estimated to be valued at US$ 101.2 billion in 2021 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 14.5 % over the forecast period (2021–2028).

OTT content is delivered over the internet, and is often bundled with a subscription to Netflix or Disney+. The term typically refers to high-quality film and television content, but is not limited to these formats. It also includes voice calling, messaging, audio, and video. It encompasses a variety of different media types, from entertainment to educational resources to lifestyle content. The technology that enables OTT to be delivered over the internet also means that consumers do not have to pay for data.

OTT players can adjust their quality based on network conditions. They automatically scale down to lower bit rates on slower networks and increase quality on faster networks. ABR, or adaptive bit rate streaming, allows OTT players to cache larger chunks of content, so viewers don’t experience the usual pauses. These pauses are frustrating for viewers and can even push them to abandon a piece of content. So, OTT content delivery is the future of content distribution. For instance, in April 2022, Netflix, a streaming giant in the U.S., reported the addition of around 1.09 million new subscribers in the APAC region during Q122.

With OTT, niche communities can thrive. A city with amazing stories can shine with video content. It has become easier to create OTT networks and monetize content than ever. With these options, niche interests and communities can find a way to reach an audience, and OTT content creators can easily reach a wide audience. But the most compelling reason for making the move to OTT is that it provides more options for creators of all types.
