Using social exhaust like music preferences and movies sounds great, but I’ve not seen enough results to feel that current implementation are actually improving the ability to match people. Have talked with many co’s trying to crack this particular issue in the dating space over the years, most implementations are “We got the API figured out, throw some output up on their profiles.” http://tastebuds.fm/ comes to mind, they went social, larger market.
A decade ago I was “An ENFP, Netflix watching Peet’s coffee drinking VW driving snowboarder, who reads William Gibson”. We can scrap all of this, just mine my FB feed, you’ll know more about me in 1 minute than any dating site or integration can deliver. But the dating industry screwed that up too, instead relying on FB connect to onboard people faster. “We won’t post anything to Facebook”, sigh.
