Search for equality among US Minorities

Ever since the United States has grown into a country minorities from all across the world have had trouble getting here. The introduction of slavery led to the import of millions of African natives to the United States to be used for work. As long as slavery was still legal, no people of colour would vountairly move to the newly formed country.

In Chapter 5 in Our Voices: Essays in Culture, Ethnicity, and Communication, it dicusses how the term “American” can refer to many different nationalities. Technically everyone in north and south america is american. In foreign countries such as Costa Rica and other spanish countries in South America, some people call themselves American. So it has been seen that spanish people can become confused if you say that you are American implying you are from the United States. In one small section, a hispanic person shares their journey of growing up and living in New Mexico, the first spanish settlement in the Unites States. There has been complications for the family to refer to themselves as Spanish.

The integration of whites, african americans, hispanics, asians, and many more has changed the ways of Americans. Some argue that there is still racism and discrimination against non white minorities in the United states. The definition of culture can be seen as a set of values, beliefs, technology, and institutionsthat bring meaning to and preserve s a group’s existence. Culture is not something that can be taken away from an individual. One’s culture is a permanent marking on each person’s life. Most interviews and discussions with minorities in the United States can revolve around that person following their culture’s traditions and beliefs. The biggest reason why wars start in our current day is because different religions believe different things. These contradictions in society lead to arguments and wars that could have been avoided if everyone could accept everyone else for who they are.

The current situation with they foreign refugees that are trying to move into the United States is escalating at a high rate. Refugees do not have a chance to pack up their belongings and draw up a plan for when they have to reside in a different country. They are often forced out of their homes and then are moved into camps that house many refugees. A limited few of the refugees would have adequate work and language experience to have a potential job in the United States. Currently there is a limit set each year on how many refugees will be allowed into the United States and the number is not growing.

The problem of discrimination will likely never leave the heads of the residents of our planet. Some way there will always be a group of people or a specific religion that drastically opposses the views of another group which will then most likely lead to bloodshed. If there is a solution to discrimination, hate, and racism, it is likely that we will never discover it because of the narrowsightedness of people in society.
