Firman Firdaus works as a Product Manager at Katadata, where his main role involves defining and communicating the product's vision and strategy, and aligning the product with the company's overall goals and ensure it meets stakeholder needs.
He works closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and quality assurance, to define product requirements, prioritize features, and oversee the development process. Ensuring that the product provides an excellent user experience by collaborating with UX designers to create user-friendly interfaces and workflows, is also part of his responsibilities.
Asides from his current role as a product manager, he's always a passionate photographer, with a deep interest in capturing the essence of humanity, the environment, diverse cultures, and pressing social issues through his lens. It’s a powerful medium that allows him to tell stories, evoke emotions, and shed light on the intricacies of our world. He believes that photography is a bridge that connects us all.
Before venturing into the world of digital design and products, Firman held the position of editor for the Indonesian edition of National Geographic Magazine (NGM-ID) from 2006 to 2017. Prior to that, he worked as a news researcher and the weekly science desk editor (Eksplorasi) for the nationally-circulated daily newspaper, Media Indonesia, from 2002 to 2006. In 2015-2016, he was tasked with designing, writing, editing, and curating photos for Fotokita.net, a photography community portal managed by NGM-ID.
Firman's portfolio includes over a dozen feature stories for National Geographic Traveler Indonesia, many of which he also photographed. He has contributed feature stories to NGM-ID and produced numerous online features and photos for Nationalgeographic.co.id.
In addition to his work in the media and design fields, Firman served as a guest mentor for the Permata PhotoJournalist Grant (PPG), the first program dedicated to nurturing emerging Indonesian photojournalists. In 2017, he founded Dialog, an editorial and design consultancy.
