It’s Never Too Late To Own A Home!

A couple of months ago, a women in her early 70’s, who was a First-Time Home Buyer, came to us to buy out her landlord on her condo in Walnut Creek, CA. We had a consultation, coordinated pricing between the two parties and opened escrow. In the meantime, she needed assistance sourcing financing and then the work started.

From our perspective, many times people have the misunderstanding that going into contract is the finish line but it is actually the beginning of where the hard work begins for both the Client and the Agent. For some reason, this part of the process is never clearly told. Disclosures were ordered. Inspections were conducted. While she had lived in the unit for 17 years, she had never thought of her home as her responsibility. The purchase and sale of physical property is unlike anything else. While exciting, it also comes with its fair amount of responsibility, which can be daunting to someone who hasn’t considered it before. What does it mean to be part of a HOA? What does it mean to budget and forecast the cost of property improvements? How do you secure insurance? How do the tax write-offs work?

Through the bumps along the way, her resilience shined through. She did a great job articulating her concerns and responding to lender litany of requests and formalities throughout the process. Now, she’s ECSTATIC! She no longer has to worry about going into her senior years and being displaced from her property or dealing with landlords raising her rents. She is now also thinking about growing her business and making her space the way she wants it. It’s never too late for a new beginning.
