Unemployment and the Failure of US Trade Policy, Part III

The latest numbers show that the US Trade deficit is $47.1 Billion per month ($565.2 Billion per year). That is to say, 5,652,000 Americans are out of work because of our trade policies.

For comparison, the official number of unemployed persons in this country is 8.0 million. Even if you figure that the true number of unemployed people is more like 20 million, those who are unemployed as a direct result of the trade situation make up a big chunk of the problem.

There are a variety of things which could be done about this, but two things must be done first:

We need to admit that there is a problem.

We need to stop making it worse.
