Standing On The Rock
Where your foundation lies is more important than what you build on it.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell-and great was its fall.” -Jesus, from Matthew 7:24-27
This passage has been a staple in my life. I heard it growing up at church all the time. It’s a really great illustration of what it means to believe in Jesus. Not just to believe, but to stand on him as the foundation for our life.
One thing that I think is worth pointing out is that the house that was built on the rock(Jesus) still was attacked by the same wind and storm as the house built on the sand. Sometimes as Christians, or non-Christians, we believe that, if we follow Christ, we get a pass on the hardships of life. That we won’t have to endure any struggles or pain. Jesus didn’t say the house built on the rock wasn’t struck by the rain or floods or blown by the winds. He said that it didn’t fall. The house stood strong threw all of the turbulence.
If your foundation is strong, no matter what happens to you, you will make it through it.
