I don’t think UI/UX designers need to have a computer science or technical degree; they’re creative people. I would much rather have a UI/UX designer on my team that primarily works on design; you’ll ship a better product. I find that teams operate the best when sticking to their strong suit with a little bit of crossover.

With that said, a UI/UX designer with a slight knowledge of programming and coding will only better their craft, I believe. By understanding code, designers can implement design choices that best suits a web browser versus a fixed layout like print.
