Getting feedback which improves what you’ve done can be limited by those around you, too. If you’re the first to implement some new idea, you may be the only person with enough understanding to authoritatively and objectively feed back on it. In engineering circles, at least, this is sometimes addressed with external mentoring. There are websites where you can pair with a random mentor around the globe who does have the requisite knowledge, who can guide you through pair-programming exercises and the like.
