Ideas are cheap. Execute!

Ideas are cheap. Ideas are easy. Ideas are common. Everybody has ideas. Ideas are highly, highly overvalued. Execution is all that matters. — Casey Neistat

Have you ever come across a business or an event or something and you just realised that you had the exact idea or sometimes something better but it never left your mind or probably your journal.

I come across many people and i hear them say “I don’t want my idea to be stolen”, they say it like they’re the only ones in the entire globe that have thought of something like that.

I am of the mindset that we should share our ideas and work on them as much as possible, hoarding your idea doesn’t give you some kind of exclusive right or something, sharing your idea most times help you connect with helpers and people that can help you attain your goal.

It is not enough to have ideas and share them we need to execute them too, it’s execution that counts, Rome wasn’t built in a day so you don’t expect to be perfect at first. Just execute.

If Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp of uber had just kept the idea of ‘tap a button, get a ride’ to themselves they would not be where they are today. Please Execute!

The entire gist is execute your idea, we as humans tend to see many problems and most times proffer solutions in our heads. Its high time we start working out those solutions with our hands.

This post stems from a stunning revelation, i was busy surfing the webhunt Nigerian site and i came across a website called ethnikcity , what amazed me is the striking similarity this website had to an idea i had about building something very similar, i had even shared my idea to a room of web developers during a bootcamp i attended in Nairobi, I asked my family and friends too but the thing was it all ended there. I admit i allowed some naysayers to influence my decision but it was something i wanted to do, really.

The quote above by Casey Neistat is so striking and humbling right now as i sit in my room writing this, a quote by Eric Thomas just flashed in my head too;

Innovation is rewarded, Execution is worshipped — Eric Thomas

I want to admonish every reader here today, don’t be scared of sharing your ideas but better still, don’t let procrastination and laxity have the better of you and you end up not executing your idea.

Remember, “In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.”

Please, execute those ideas, write that code, start that blog, do something, execute!
