The weekly collective sharing of work and interests is a great way to bring everyone out of isolation, but only works when people want to contribute. If only a few add to the slides or if people feel compelled, it doesn’t work.
In my team, we have weekly meetings where the full team gets together and then smaller groups also meet based on discipline. In the full team gatherings and in the visual designers meeting where I attend, the meetings are only as good as the level of participation and contribution. One thing that’s helped in both meetings is having what we call a moment of zen, which is sharing an inspiring and sometimes distracting/funny video at the end.
