Doesn’t this just mean that far-right websites are relying on the same consumer-facing tech services that the all other websites rely on? Facebook custom audiences and Google analytics aren’t specially tailored to the conspiracy web. They’re just what everyone relies on by default.
honest question: what actions from Donald Trump lead you to believe he is a rational actor? I take Trump *very* seriously. I also study political communication for a living. There is no strategic rationale for many of his public statements, or at least none that I have been able to identify.
Good point, Josh. I’m going to work on a follow-up what-about-Bannon piece today. Short version: Bannon is very dangerous, but he also is vulnerable to palace intrigue-politics. He’s one of the few members of the Trump inner circle who isn’t a member of the Trump family.
The rallies have definitely generated media coverage. And Trump, more generally, has been a perpetual media coverage-machine. That’s new and, I suppose, innovative. But… two other things to consider:
