I think the concept of vanity is very relatable to the topic of social media. I agree that we as humans inherently have the capacity for those emotion but at the same time there is a threshold of grey under which situation and circumstance plays a part of. I think the “selfie” or our increased obsession with social media lives in the gray area as well where it can go either way. These new platforms allows us to express ourself, however the question that the article refers to is in what way or for what reason? I say take as many selfies as you want, if people don appreciate them, it’s simply not for them. But as long as the platforms allow for an instant gratification type cycle, the underlaying, or not so discrete, vanity and narcissism will continue to be a part of this type of human interaction.
