So flippin’ close!

As we were gunning towards the launch of TAXO’D, an email dropped into our inbox. It gave us a glimpse of what might be if we put the importance of a launch date ahead of being ready to fly just yet.
The email was from Hours, a top grossing app in the app store. Hours is a beautifully designed time-tracking app for freelancers. However, instead of celebrating the release of Hours 2.0, their efforts turned to troubleshooting. Issues began to surface when their users jumped from hundreds — to thousands in a few days.
As a freelancer, I pride myself on hitting deadlines. I’ll work every hour under to the sun (and moon) to deliver the best possible work, on time. The launch of TAXO’D is no different. We had the option to release but there is testing and kinks in the user journey we haven’t fully ironed out. It’s just not quite where our users deserve it to be — yet.
Tax sucks but so do delays…
We accepted yesterday we’d have to hold off launch just that little bit longer. Delaying means avoiding frustrating our users and exhausting our post-launch efforts resolving issues. We want to deliver the reliable tool we’ve been so eager to get into your hands. So in the end, delaying was a difficult but necessary decision.
We’ve followed the example set by Hours. They were transparent and honest about their teething problems. Their founder, Jeremy Olson, posted on Medium to explain how they were putting things right for their users. I’ve no doubt Hours 2.0 will be worth waiting for.
On a positive note, delaying our launch means more people can take advantage of getting TAXO’D for free. And anyone already signed up will have their 12-month free period begin once we launch.
We’ve put together a short video to give you a glimpse of how TAXO’D works and will change the way you do your freelance taxes.
I can’t wait to let you know when we’ll be able to release TAXO’D into the wild!
