This. The automakers are like the cell phone makers. They figure it’s so difficult for them that it will impossibly difficult for any upstarts. Now Tesla isn’t Apple, and indications are that the automakers are aware of the danger they face. Plus several thousand pounds of materials per product is a really large barrier for anyone to breach.
I had the opposite experience a few months back. They replaced a steel series 0 that had opened because of a swollen battery with another steel series 0. My old one had a good amount of wear on the case but the screen was intact. Whole time in the store was like 15 min.
Also have had good experience with getting old Macbook airs refurbed for a few hundred bucks.
Apple has grown up. You have too, which is why all of this seems less fun. I used to have a great deal of fun building Gentoo from source (and I actually go back way further than that), but now? The bar is don’t annoy me too much so I can get on with things.
Ask the question from the POV of the hiring team. What’s the most efficient way to locate and hire qualified candidates?

This. It IS really good at leveling the audio out for a given volume in your space which is more than you would get out of any ‘dumb’ speaker. But physics.
For most people this would easily be the best audio source in their house.
