As a developer who just eclipsed the half-century mark, a ton of what you write here hits home. I actually did “join the kids” a few years back at an e-commerce startup, diving into the deep end of Ruby & Rails. There was a learning curve, certainly, but it was a lot of fun… this old, white-haired guy could actually write some code! What that gig did was to once again remind me why I started coding back in 1981 — I love to solve problems with code. I hope that I continue to be reminded of that periodically over my next 5 decades. ;)
