The XB-70 was the signature plane of the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. It was displayed outdoors until 2011. (This is a picture I got off the web that appears to be from the 70's.)

“Got up at 5:30 am quickly. We beat Howdy’s group to the seats on the bus so I got a seat by myself. Ate breakfast at A&W about 8:00 am. Had lunch at McDonald’s at 1:00 pm. I had a quarter pounder, fries, and a Coke. At 3:00 pm I saw Phil Donahue at the Air Force Museum. There was too much to see there. Had the #2 at Ponderosa. Scott fought with Weiner and landed two good blows. Signed our pictures on the road.”

2017 Commentary

I’m a little surprised that I didn’t take any pictures at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH but I was probably out of film and also out of money to buy film. At the time, I enjoyed the Annex located a shuttle bus away more than the museum since there weren’t any barriers to walking around the planes.

Five years later I started my first active duty assignment in the Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB next to the museum. The Air Force Museum is at least twice as big as it was 40 years ago and now the XB-70 is displayed indoors. It is currently known as the National Museum of the Air Force and it’s on my bucket list to revisit sometime.
